Argenta residents Linda, and her son Broderick, Alexander have a family member that is trying to raise funds for a “People to People International Exchange Program” for student ambassadorship to Australia in 2011.
Linda’s granddaughter, Tayler Lee, is a 9th grader at Clarendon high School in Clarendon, AR. Tayler is very excited and optimistic about this life changing opportunity. The individuals selected for this program must be strong of character and academically sound.
One of the conditions of the program is that the candidate has to raise funds for her trip and Tayler is currently seeking financial sponsors. To help her reach her goal Tayler’s church members have donated a 42” Flat Screen T.V. for raffle. The tickets are $2.00 each or a booklet for $20.00. The drawing is February 20th. If anyone is interested in purchasing these tickets please contact me, Becky Ragsdale @ 376-1127. For further information, sponsorships or just for tickets contact Tayler’s parents at (870) 372-0234.
Please consider helping this Argenta resident’s grandchild fulfill her dream.

Fans of Union Pacific Steam Train!

This is the last day to vote BUT I am having trouble with the website so please keep trying to vote. The last number I saw showed us leading by a very slight margin, please vote!
.YOUR daily votes can make the difference in bringing this impressive Steam Train back to Arkansas and North Little Rock!
Voting continues through midnight Monday, Jan. 17th at www.upexcursion.com. Remember fans can vote once per day per email account.

For the first time ever, Union Pacific wants you to route the steam excursion. This is your chance to help the UP Steam Team decide where these steam giants will travel in 2011.
Currently, the Missouri-Arkansas route is a close second behind the Iowa-Illinois route (called the Tuscola Turn). Tuscola, Ill. has a population of 4,000 and folks are passing out flyers to remind everyone to vote. With a race this close, every vote matters and I know North Little Rock and all of Central Arkansas can win the contest if we get people voting.

You can help today by
    • Encourage your friends to vote by sharing the www.upexcursion.com link on Facebook and/or Twitter!
    • Forward this email to your contacts
Voting continues through midnight Monday, Jan. 17th at www.upexcursion.com. Remember fans can vote once per day per email account.

Eric Francis

Local celebrity free-lance author, Eric Francis has done it again. I opened this mornings paper to see a full page advertisement for "Arkansas Life" magazine. Who should have a headlined article but Argenta's own Eric Francis. It is a nostalgic look back on Barton Coliseum's concert days. I remember my first concert there, it was Steppenwolfe & I wore red patent leather  platform shoes. Ahhh the memories.....
I loved Eric's piece on the Turdunken escapade & I can't wait to read this latest addition. Bravo Eric, I look forward to reading many more of your wonderful articles. And pray tell, could a book be far off....

Mail problems?

We have been having trouble with getting the right mail or not getting some mail. I thought it was just me but then I spoke with some other residents & hear they have been having problems also. I spoke with a gentleman at the postal service who handles lost mail. He is looking into the problem & will get back to me. In the mean time I was wondering if anyone else is having a problem? Please don't get me wrong, I think we have wonderful mail carrier's & I know they have a tough job, but I don't want to lose my mail.
Let me know if you are having issues by emailing me @  bnbragsdale@comcast.net

Weird Happenings

Has anyone been noticing some strange happenings around the neighborhood lately?  Have you noticed an influx of new people causing chaos?
We had some type of hysterical/domestic disturbance the other night near the 6th and Willow intersection, 8 NLR police officers responded. I don't know exactly what happened but several folks were arrested, there were many children at the residence and chaos ensued. It didn't appear as if anyone was injured as no one left with the ambulance.
Then last night some one tied a dog to the partial fence by the old church at 6th and Maple. Poor thing howled for what seemed like forever. He was left there with a loose fitting chain. He became entangled in a post with multiple nails sticking out. We went out and tried to comfort and free him, to no avail. When he tried to jump the fence, that's when we called law enforcement for help. We were afraid he would accidentally hang himself on the fence. No one ever came to claim the dog so an officer took her to NLR animal shelter.
Has anyone had a similar experience as of late? Are you seeing any homeless folks wandering the area at night or anything out of the ordinary? Anything of concern? Please let me know so I can inform the proper authority's.
