Solicitors

I have heard there has been a problem with people knocking at doors and soliciting work for money. One report was of someone knocking loudly and forcefully at a home where the female of the household was there with her children, she became alarmed.
I am collecting data to send to Lt.Tyree of the NLR Police Dept and need to hear from residents. If you have had someone come by on a golf cart wanting to rake leaves for money or if anyone has come by of late and left you feeling uncomfortable please let me know. Email me @: bnbragsdale@comcast.net so I can forward the areas of concern on to the police.

Trucks

Are you seeing alot of semi-truck movement on thier residential streets such as Willow, Orange,5th & 6th st's? Particularly if you live on a corner. Are you seeing any damage as a result of these heavy trucks? You can answer me here under comments or email me @ bnbragsdale@comcast.net.
We are seeing increased traffic on 6th st & can not see how they can turn on Orange or Willow without causing some type of damage. I know there has also been increased traffic on Willow, 4th & 5th st's. If you do see them try to get a name on the side of the truck & a number would be great! We have addressed the issue with the police but I am wanting to collect further data.

Sofa/Vagrant Update

Wanted to update everyone on the great sofa & vagrant caper. Well the wonderful code enforcement folks came by & picked up the dastardly sofas only to have the culprit return with more junk & dumped it in the same spot. Hopefully it will be picked up by Wednesday.
The vagrants it turns out may be associated with a recent meat theft at the Market. Please keep your eyes open & report any suspicious meat thieves you may see wandering the area. At last sighting they were seen approaching an area east of  Main & carrying blue garbage bags that appeared to be filled with meat & leaving a trail of blood. Believe me, my dog Brody picked up the scent quick!
Just as a reminder here is the non-emergency police phone number-758-1234.

We are home

Hey Argenta! Bob & I have been in Denver for the past week visiting the sons and are happily back home now. The size of Denver makes one appreciate our wonderful life here in Argenta. We saw pockets of neighborhoods that reminded us of Argenta but not one that would make me want to move out there. We did drive up to Boulder & Estes Park. Boulder is not the same as the last time we were there, corporate commercialism has moved in as the coolness had moved out. Estes is still the same but was blowing cold & snowing during our drive up there. We vow to return when the weather is warmer.
Wanted to update you on a couple of things. I did receive an email regarding public information that we have some sex offenders living in the 300 block of 7th street, here is what I have been sent:

Adam H. DOB 8/4/65
Sexual assault 2nd degree- Mr. H. had sexual contact with an 11 and 7 year old female.
Job- none Vehicle-none
Risk level 2.

Gary S. DOB 8/7/66
Rape- Mr S. engaged in sexual intercourse with an adult female.
Job- none Vehicle-none.
Risk level 2.
I have left off the last names as a matter of legality to this blog. If anyone wants the last names just contact me @:bnbragsdale@comcast.net.
This morning I noticed someone has "dumped" 2 sofas in Bubba's parking lot on 6th. Also saw some vagrants stashing their belongings in the doorway of the old church & taking a very public "whizz" on the tree adjacent the church. The proper authorities were notified along with Bubba's office. If anyone notices folks wandering the neighborhood with large blue bags & publicly exposing themselves here is the "non-emergency" police phone number: 758-1234.
Hope all is well & look forward to a great Thanksgiving.

Debbie Gill

Argenta resident Debbie Gill, who resided at 4th & Willow in the home of Laura Bushman, died yesterday afternoon from results of a tragic car accident. Many of you may have known Debbie when she was an employee at The Argenta Market. No funeral arrangements have been made at the time of this posting.
Our hearts & prayers go out to Debbie's surviving children, the Gill family & Laura Bushman.

Eric Francis

Eric Francis has a wonderful article in this months issue of Living Magazine about the infamous "Turdunken" ( hope I spelled that right). If you get a chance grab & copy & read it, it is too funny. Loads of Argenta wit & a couple of locals are sprinkled among the verbiage. I am so glad you did all that work so now I don't need to bother, just wished I had gotten a chance to taste the darn thing.
Good job Eric, hope to be reading more of your musings in the future!

'SANDWICHING IN HISTORY' TOUR TO VISIT MELROSE PLACE ADDITION

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program's next "Sandwiching in History" tour will visit the Melrose Place Addition in North Little Rock on November 5, AHPP Director Frances McSwain announced today.

Located in the northwest corner of the Argenta Historic District, the Melrose Place Addition was platted in 1924 by Twin City Bank. The bank constructed 53 small Craftsman bungalow houses in the addition between 1925 and 1929. These homes feature similar plans and were historically occupied by railroad employees. The Melrose Place Addition is the only deviation from the traditional street grid pattern in Argenta.

The tour will begin in front of 108 Melrose Circle and will include a tour of that house.

The "Sandwiching in History" tour series targets Pulaski County structures and sites. The noontime tours are held on Fridays and include a brief lecture and tour of the subject property. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunches with them.   The final 2010 "Sandwiching in History" tour, the Herschell-Spillman Carousel at the Little Rock Zoo, will be held December 3.  All tours are free and open to the public. For information, call the AHPP at (501) 324-9880, write the agency at 1500 Tower Building, 323 Center St., Little Rock, AR 72201, send an e-mail message to info@arkansaspreservation.org, or visit the agency web site at www.arkansaspreservation.org.

Postings

Urban Wireless

Urban Wireless has been providing wireless services to Argenta Neighborhood for several years, they are changing how they operate & want to turn over neighborhood services to Boosters. What they need is @ least 3 ( Boosters will take as many as we can get) homes that want this service to form a type of bridge from North Willow to 7th st & back over to the 200 block of 5th st. But the entire neighborhood could potentially connect to this network.
I need to know if this is something the neighborhood supports & wants. In the past there was no charge for this but I don't know if that will continue, I have asked that question & I am waiting on a reply. Please let me now ASAP so I can give the provider our response.

Argenta Community Development

Hello

Sorry I have been absent this week , had a bit of some bug going around & was in bed. Hope to get more posted.
I am crunching the numbers for the Cook-Out & things are looking pretty good. Folks may not have to contribute to the "meat fund" by bringing their own meat, unless of course you want to. I went price comparison shopping today & found some good deals. Their are a couple of things I need help with, how many folks have ice machines? We need a ton of ice for beer & drinks. I still need some folks to volunteer to help set up & break down.
Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions. We could have a planning meeting, let me know what you think. bnbragsdale@comcast.net

August Boosters meeting

I am trying to get the news letter out a bit early this month so everyone has a chance to participate @ the Boosters Ball Park Picnic, so be looking for it in the mail the latter part of next week. I am very excited to tell you that our Alderman Maurice Taylor is going to be our Speaker @ our August meeting. Also, that is when you can pick up your bracelets for the Ball Park Picnic!
Feel free to spread the word about the Ball Park & pray for good weather!!! And come out & hear Mr.Taylor speak to our neighborhood!

Maple street house

Someone graciously pointed out to me that some comments that I thought would make a funny story may have been insensitive. If anyone, especially the homeowner in question, was offended I want to extend an sincere apology. I never meant to harm or embarrass anyone & for that I am truly sorry. I thought the events humorous as I have a family that has been the brunt of many jokes but have to realize that what one person sees as humor another may not. In the future I will try to be more sensitive to my neighbors feelings.

From Officer Tommy Norman withe NLR Police Dept.

Tommy writes:

The 3rd annual NLRPD backpack/tennis shoe event will be held on Saturday, August 14th, 10am, at Shoe Carnival in Lakewood Village.  50 NLR children will receive a backpack full of school supplies, along with a $50.00 Shoe Carnival gift card to purchase a pair of shoes for back to school.  There is an account ( "NLRPD back to school account " ) open at Centennial Bank.  Donations of any type of school supplies would be beneficial for this event.  Also, as many as 10 officers are needed for this event.  Officers would assist a child in choosing a pair of shoes, which would take 30 minutes.  Safelite Auto Glass will be grilling hot dogs at the event, and providing drinks as well.  The event last year was lots of fun!  Please email me, or call me at 580-6959, if you are interested in donating school supplies or shopping with a child.  Thank You.

Officer Norman

As a NLR School Board member, I can assure you there are many kids in our schools who need these types of programs to succeed in school.  If you and group’s members can help with this program, you can make real difference in a child’s life.
