The City of North Little Rock has awarded a total of $18,956 to seven community garden projects in North Little Rock.
Grants were awarded to: Argenta Community Garden: $2,535, Dark Hollow CDC: $1,980, Dixie Community Gardens: $3,105, East Second Street Community Garden: $3,300, The People Tree/Argenta Vegetable Garden: $3,300, The People Tree/Sherman Park CDC: $3,300,
Senior Citizens Outreach Service: $1,436.
The Fit 2 Live Community Garden Grant Program is funded by North Little Rock's City Council as part of an effort to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables across the City. City Council allocated a total of $40,000 ($10,000 for each of the city's four wards) to assist with building or improving community gardens. The grants are part of North Little Rock's on-going Fit 2 Live wellness initiative, committed to increasing healthy eating and active living opportunities for all residents.
The remaining funds will be used for a second round of garden grants in the autumn. The City aims to support new projects, especially in Wards 1, 3 and 4. Interested individuals or groups may contact Bernadette Gunn, Fit 2 Live Coordinator, at bgunn@northlittlerock.ar.gov or 501-975-8777.
